United Way of New York City, in partnership with the New York Giants and the New York Jets, hosted the 31st annual Gridiron Gala at The Glasshouse in New York City in May. For more than 50 years, United Way and the National Football League have teamed up to improve the lives of young people across the country.

This exceptional event honors outstanding leaders who work tirelessly to make a positive difference through both professional and philanthropic contributions.

While UWNYC is dedicated to making sure that all New York City communities thrive, the program shined a light on healing communities and empowering individuals, including those impacted by the justice system, to succeed through access to proper resources, healthcare, and mental health services.

During the evening, the George Irish MVP distinction was presented to Denise Pickett, current UWNYC board member and Global Services Group President at American Express. Rudy Wynter, former UWNYC board member and President of National Grid New York, was awarded the esteemed title of Community Quarterback. Both are highly regarded leaders for their remarkable partnership driving critical initiatives for the betterment of our neighborhoods.

The two Hometown Hero awards, which honor a commitment to positively affecting the community, were presented to Quincy Williams from the New York Jets and Darius Slayton from the New York Giants. Extraordinary contributors both on and off the field, Quincy works as an ambassador with the American Cancer Society and supports girls flag football, while Darius is a mentor and advocate of the Far Rockaway Giants youth program.

Harry Carson, a former New York Giants team member, as well D’Brickashaw Ferguson, previously with the New York Jets, were among the attendees. Civic, nonprofit, and philanthropic leaders, as well as corporations from industries such as entertainment, technology, financial services, construction and more were also present.

This was more than an event – it was a call for a continued collaboration to make a positive impact in tangible ways. Join us! Don’t miss out – you can still celebrate the power of team! Donate here.
