How We Work with New York City Nonprofits

Our Nonprofit Partnerships

United Way of New York City is a volunteer-led organization that mobilizes the resources and strategic thinking of the nonprofit, private, and public sectors to improve lives, strengthen the community, and build a stronger New York City. Recognizing the unique and valuable role that nonprofits play in the city's overall human service delivery system, we partner with a range of nonprofit organizations – from large city-wide agencies to small, community-based groups.

1. We partner with selected organizations to carry out the on-the-ground operations of our Action Area programs and initiatives. These strategic partners are chosen through a multi-tiered process to help the United Way achieve change in the root causes of critical issues.


2. United Way administers a variety of government-funded programs and funders' collaboratives. Through these programs, we provide grants to community-based organizations in support of specific services such as emergency shelter and hunger and nutrition assistance.
