Spotlight on Brooke Cabrera: I Fight for a Blueprint

Meet Brooke Cabrera! Brooke is Senior Director at Colliers International, a global real estate firm, and a Membership and Marketing Co-Chair on United Way of New York City’s (UWNYC) Young Leaders Council. Brooke is also a University of Maryland College Park grad—go Terrapins! With her expertise in real estate, Brooke knows the inextricable value of a blueprint. In no more than 80 words, here’s why she fights for one to empower New Yorkers in need:

"I fight to support the BLUEPRINT United Way of New York City created to ensure that sustainable change within our community occurs. From the children that grow up in our ReadNYC program to the powerful and strong men and women supported by this fantastic cause today, this change would be impossible without the foundation and precedent that the United Way has set."

As Brooke remarks, a fortified foundation—a guiding belief, a devoted team, and sound approach—is key to moving low-income New Yorkers from barely making ends meet to thriving. At UWNYC, we believe everyone deserves the chance to live out their dreams in NYC. And we know that to put this belief into action we can’t go it alone, especially if we want to help families long-term. That’s why we’re committed and accountable to bringing together the best ideas and resources from across business, government, foundations, communities, and individuals like you to solve our City’s toughest challenges.

United, we diagnose community challenges, design comprehensive on-the-ground solutions, deploy resources and volunteers to carry out those solutions, and drive lasting impact. Only united can we ensure no New Yorker is every one paycheck away from hunger and homelessness.

Using this approach, we’ve impacted more than 700 kids through our ReadNYC program, supported nearly 20,000 students through our EducateNYC program, served 3.4 million meals to hungry New Yorkers through our FeedNYC program, and connected more than 100,000 households to essential benefits through our BenefitsAccessNYC program.

And at 80 years young, this is only the beginning for UWNYC, and we’d love you to be a part of what’s ahead. On March 7, 2018, come collaborate, innovate, and carry out our blueprint for moving NYC families from surviving to thriving at our 12th Annual Power of Women to Make a Difference Award Luncheon.
