The Young Leaders Council brings the passion and philanthropic power of young professionals together to transform New York City. The YLC provides robust opportunities to connect community-driven 20- and 30-somethings who’re eager to lead their peers, fundraise and advocate on behalf of low-income New Yorkers.

YLC Members enjoy exclusive benefits depending on membership level. Benefits include but aren’t limited to:

  • Invitations to exclusive events that feature prominent local leaders
  • On-the-ground volunteerism that promotes long-term community change
  • Illuminating panel discussions and briefings on contemporary social issues

Ways to Get Involved

All YLC members gain access to select professional development and social events and all volunteer opportunities.

As a preferred member, you get the benefits of general membership, plus you're eligble to apply for a position on one of our YLC Subcommittees including  Events + Fundraising, Community Engagement, and Membership + Markenting.

Our top-level membership includes complimentary tickets to all YLC social events, joint membership with our Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), and access to all professional development and volunteer opportunities. Executive members are also eligible to apply for a position on the YLC Executive Committee.

Roll out your mat and lets get into warrior pose to help United Way of New York City, through programs like ReadNYC, give families living in high-poverty communities the supports they need to become self-sufficient.


VOLUNTEER: Build Hygiene Kits for ReadNYC Families in Transitional Housing

Join the YLC at our United Way of New York City office for an evening of volunteering—impacting some of our City's most-vulnerable neighbors. Volunteers will pack hygiene kits for ReadNYC families who are in transitional housing.

Rise and Shine for IMPACT! Volunteer with the YLC.

Join the YLC at Father's Heart Ministries for a morning of volunteering—impacting some of our City's most-vulnerable neighbors.  Volunteers will whisk, fry, and griddle their way through cooking and serving a hot breakfast for hungry New Yorkers, along with distributing beverages, setting tables, kitchen clean-up, and assisting in the food pantry.


Wine Down with the YLC

Help Out at Hell's Kitchen Farm Project's Rooftop Garden **AT CAPACITY**
June 17 (10:00 AM–12:30 PM) | Hell's Kitchen Farm Project (410 W. 40th Street New York, NY)

Working alongside Hell's Kitchen Farm Project staff, volunteers will helped spruce up garden beds, plant seeds, and transfer soil, all while enjoying the beautiful Hell's Kitchen skyline. All produce grown on the farm goes directly to the Rauschenbush Metro Ministries Food Pantry right below the roof.


Join Our ZogSports Kickball Team to Make an Impact On and Off the Field
Regular season games begin June 14 (Wednesdays) | Robert Moses Playground

Join our team and take our fight for education to the field! United Way of New York City (UWNYC) has been named ZogSports' 2017 seasonal charity partner! Play for UWNYC this season to support our City's vulnerable children and families. Teams play once a week on Wednesdays. Regular season games begin June 14th, so lock in your spot today!

Friday, June 2 (6:00–10:00 PM) | Central Park South Penthouse

On June 2, 2017, our United Way of New York City Young Leaders Council held its annual Summer Soiree—an exclusive rooftop fundraising event. High above the trees and city lights, over 200 young professionals raised more than $50,000 to support our ReadNYC program—$9,000 of which (raised in-room) will help send students to Once Upon a Summer, ReadNYC's 7-week summer reading camp.

Inspire Youth at East Bronx Academy

Volunteers inspired NYC youth at East Bronx Academy Middle School's Career Readiness and Exploration Event. Prepare Meals for New Yorkers in Need
March 26  (1:30–4:30 PM) | God's Love We Deliver (166 6th Ave, New York, NY 10013)

YLCers suited up to prep and pack meals at God's Love We Deliver, a UWNYC Emergency Food and Shelter program partner. God's Love We Deliver cooks and delivers thousands of nutritious, high-quality meals daily across NYC for individuals who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.


Cycle for IMPACT!

YLCers put pedal to the metal to help NYC families in need by teaming up with SoulCycle and Express for an exclusive charity ride. The ride benefitted UWNYC's programs, like ReadNYC.

Eighteen YLC volunteers from 11 different companies prepared 480 healthy snack packs for P.S. 43, a ReadNYC school in the Mott Haven community of the South Bronx. SEE PHOTOS

Serve a Warm Meal at the Bowery Mission

YLCers rolled up their sleeves and threw on an apron to prep and serve lunch to homeless and low-income New Yorkers visiting the Mission’s soup kitchen.


Wine Down with the YLC

YLCers relaxed while sipping crisp autumn air, Pinot, Cabernet, and Sauvignon, leaving their cares in the boroughs and enjoying an exclusive North Fork wine-tasting tour.
