UWNYC’s survey finds that 36% of New Yorkers say they or a family member had difficulty paying for food in past 12 months. See more results.
As an extension of the Hunger Prevention & Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP), United Way of New York City supports partner food pantries in their conversion to "client choice." This best-practice model of food distribution makes it possible for pantries to satisfy the cultural and nutritional needs of individuals in their communities while reducing waste. Food pantry clients are empowered to select their own food and make healthy food choices.
United Way of New York City and HPNAP are dedicated to improving the health status of vulnerable New Yorkers by not just providing meals and groceries but also improving the nutritional value of the food they eat.
If you are a New York City–based food pantry and are interested in learning more about making the change to client choice, please contact Stacey McCarthy at (212) 251-4060 or smccarthy@uwnyc.org.
