U.S. Chief Financial Officer, National Grid
Margaret M. Smyth is the U.S. Chief Financial Officer at National Grid, one of the world’s largest publicly owned utilities focused on electric and gas transmission and distribution activities in the Northeast U.S. Peggy oversees all finance, accounting, and financial services activities for National Grid U.S. She also serves as a director on the board of National Grid USA.
Peggy was formerly the Vice President of Finance at Consolidated Edison, Inc. in New York. Prior to this role, she was Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance at Hamilton Sundstrand, a United Technologies (UTC) company and previously, Vice President and Corporate Controller for UTC. Prior to joining UTC, Peggy served as Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of 3M in St. Paul, MN. She was also a Senior Managing Partner at Deloitte and Arthur Andersen in NYC.
Peggy is a member of the Board of Directors of British-American Business and Organization for International Investment. Additionally, she is a director and member of the audit committee of Etsy, Inc. and an audit committee member of two subsidiaries of Mutual of America. Peggy is also a trustee for Concern Worldwide (U.S.) Inc.; and a member of the Executive Committee of the President’s Council for Fordham University.
Peggy earned her M.S. in Accounting from the NYU Stern School of Business and her B.A. in Economics from Fordham University, graduating summa cum laude from both. She has also been awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Commercial Science by St. Thomas Aquinas College and is an Aspen Institute Henry Crown Fellow.
