NEW YORK CITY, April 6, 2016— As part of its work to strengthen New York City nonprofits, United Way of New York City (UWNYC) is partnering as Community Lead for Give Local New York City—the NYC component of the exciting nationwide crowd-funding event Give Local America, happening May 3, 2016. The partnership utilizes UWNYC’s unique power as a convener and capacity builder to connect donors to organizations solving our community's most pressing challenges.

Give Local NYC is 24-hours dedicated to the celebration and support of nonprofit organizations through online giving at GiveLocalNYC.org. Hundreds of nonprofit organizations are expected to join the movement to strengthen the foundation of New York City neighborhoods. On May 3, New Yorkers will be encouraged to give to more than 200 local nonprofits of their choice at GiveLocalNYC.org.

"We are thrilled to bring Give Local America to New York City—for the first time—to support NYC nonprofit organizations," says Sheena Wright, President and CEO, United Way of New York City. “UWNYC is uniquely positioned to help our local community-based organizations build capacity and resources. Through this partnership, we are helping to make our NYC nonprofits even stronger—a part we are proud to play.”

"We have wanted to bring Give Local America to New York City area since our inaugural year because of the tremendous impact a grassroots, community-driven event can have across the city," says Janet Torres, Director of Partnership Development, Kimbia, an online fundraising technology for nonprofits. "United Way of New York City is an ideal partner as they are dedicated to helping community-based organizations build capacity for over 76 years. With their leadership we are excited to work with them to deliver one day of unprecedented community giving."

Give Local NYC is part of a national day of giving known as Give Local America (GLA). In its first year, GLA raised $53.7 million for 7,000 nonprofits, a record-breaking program that benefitted communities across the nation. In 2015, through a partnership with more than 9,000 local nonprofits, Give Local America raised more than $68 million for local communities. In 2016, Give Local America hopes to engage even more nonprofit organizations and expand its fundraising efforts to reach $100 million in donations nationwide.

The Give Local NYC giving day begins on May 3, 2016 from 12:00 am ET – 11:59:59 pm ET.
