Who We Are

United Way of New York City (UWNYC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping low-income New Yorkers make ends meet and lead economically mobile lives. Working in the most underserved communities, we ensure that individuals and families are never one paycheck away from hunger or homelessness, that children can dare to dream and build a future for themselves, and that cross-sector partners can collaborate to provide the resources and infrastructure necessary to support community needs.

We believe that when all New Yorkers have a fair chance to succeed, our City succeeds too!

Our Mission

To help mobilize our communities to break down barriers and build opportunities that improve the lives of low-income New Yorkers for the benefit of all.

Our Vision

We envision caring communities where all individuals and families have access to quality education and the opportunity to lead healthy and financially secure lives. And to accomplish that we must shift mindsets, practices, and policies in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty—and Citywide—to implement and scale what works.

Creating Change Through Collective Impact

Collective impact brings together people across multiple industries to achieve social change. Working together on a common agenda, establishing shared measurement, fostering mutually-reinforcing supports, and open communication takes us from everyday goals to extraordinary results.

UWNYC, along with our partners from government, business, foundations, nonprofits, the community, and our investors are working hard to change what it means to be a New Yorker, and it starts with getting our underserved neighbors on the path to economic mobility.
