In February, UWNYC staff attended the 53rd Session of the New York State Black Puerto Rican Hispanic and Asian Legislative Conference in Albany, NY.

During the conference, our Health Equity team hosted a workshop that explored the critical role played by preventative health care in reducing health disparities and severe disease in our city. Titled, “Increasing Investments in Preventative Care Access in NYC,” the workshop aligned with other session topics that included health care inequities, housing insecurities, criminal justice reform, and closing disparities within the educational system, among others.

Our Education Equity team also held the talk “Digital Equity: Increasing Equitable Access to Computer Science Literacy in the A.I. Era,” focusing on ways to create equitable access to computer science education for NYC students and increasing investments in home, community, and classroom libraries.

We are grateful for the partnership of our legislative sponsors Assemblymember Marcela Mitaynes and Senator Kristen Gonzalez, as well as all of our panelists. Our presence at this conference would not have been as impactful without their collaboration.
